Featured Photographers

Helen Kay - Helen's artistic practice focuses on archive and memory. What is remembered, what is forgotten and the trace that is left. Materiality of Photography is extremely important to her and she works almost exclusively in the analogue and alternative space.

Donna Hannigan - Donna is a dedicated photographer in Blackpool who captures her hometown's spirit through community-focused imagery. Her work highlights communication and connection, promoting optimistic perspectives from a resident's viewpoint. By sharing her expertise, Donna fosters creativity and community engagement.

Deb Parr - Debs considers herself to be a social documentary photographer, capturing images of people at large events which encapsulate our way of life, our 'Britishness'. In particular, football culture plays a huge part and Debs captures the passion of the fans, the camaraderie, loyalty, family, rivalry, tribalism, connections to their club and something much deeper, using portraiture and candid photography, finding out their stories, putting a face to the football fan, talking to them, finding out what going to the match means to them, how they were introduced to football, why they support their particular team. Having exhibited several times at Hive Arts, most recently part of 'Photopool 24' including the tramstop takeover on Blackpool Promenade and the 'Get Your Kits Out Festival' and 'Who Are Ya' billboard exhibition in Liverpool City Centre, displaying female football fan portraits. Her latest project which will be exhibited at PhotoNorth Festival 'Rivalry and Romance' introduces various couples who support rival football teams and how this affects their relationship, does love and romance really conquer all? Some of Debs' football fan images are currently on display at the 'Going to the Match' exhibition at Bury Art Museum until 1st March.

Adam Mousley - Adam's work has a street photography, black and white theme.

Dawn Mander - Blackpool photographer concentrating on social documentary and street photography.

Ian Currie - In my photography I try to capture fleeting moments. My images here preserve the transience of people in galleries. Some are contemplating art, some soaking up an atmosphere, some creating an interesting space of their own.

Kate Yates - Having been a keen photographer for many years, Kate's work was primarily focused on recording holidays and time spent with family. However after being involved (as a subject) in a major local project, she was encouraged to take her photography to a new level. Though still only a leisure/hobby activity, the support and advice from many other photographers has given her a new and perhaps more refined way of tackling the subjects. This series for Photo North, entitled 'Feathers' comes from a love of wildlife.

Richard Oughton is a documentary photographer specialising in subcultures, portraiture, and the Northern Soul scene. His work explores identity, community, and place, often focusing on intimate human stories. As an artist in residence with AA2A, he has examined our relationship with the sea through his project Where the Wind Howls, capturing the raw beauty and emotional depth of coastal life.

Daniel Dunleavy-Welsh - Daniel is a photographer studying at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). He specialises in architectural photography, with a strong focus on capturing the bold and striking aesthetics of brutalist architecture. His latest project, Brutal, is a collection of images showcasing the raw beauty and geometric precision of brutalist design, which will be exhibited at PhotoNorth. In addition to his work on brutalism, Daniel also explores other subjects. His project By The Sea focuses on the landscapes and structures that make up the British seaside, highlighting the unique charm and character of these coastal environments. Daniel has collaborated in exhibitions such as Hive PhotoPool 24 and the No.12 Collective exhibition, both held at The Hive. He also participated in the Fill the Frame contest run by Garry Cook at Preston Markets. His work continues to explore the visual narratives within architecture and other landscapes.

Amanda Aiton - Amanda is a Photographer and Cyanotype Artist from Blackpool, North-West UK. The works being shown here at PhotoNorth are original cyanotypes taken from her digital image.
