  • Photo North Festival #6 will display a digital slideshow of the Ian Parry Grant winners from 1990 to 2024 and information about the 2025 Open Call.

The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant is an esteemed award established in memory of Ian Parry, a young photojournalist who tragically lost his life while covering the Romanian Revolution in 1989. The grant was founded by Parry’s friends and family to support emerging photojournalists at the beginning of their careers.

Aimed at photographers under the age of 24 or those enrolled in full-time photographic education, the grant provides financial support, mentorship, and industry exposure to help recipients develop their documentary projects. Each year, the award includes a financial grant, mentorship from leading professionals, inclusion in a London exhibition, and the opportunity to have work published in major media outlets.

Beyond individual support, the grant fosters a strong alumni network and advocates for the importance of documentary photography. Over the years, it has helped launch the careers of many notable photojournalists who have gone on to produce impactful, globally recognised work.
