Richard Davis on The Power of Photography 

Richard Davis joins Photo North this November with an exhibition and talk on his career, the power of photography and how it captures time, specifically surrounding brutalist architecture and the links between Park Hill, Hulme and the Barbican.  “In the day to day nothing changes, but over time everything looks different, photography captures and documents the surroundings that we have forgotten.” 

This Sheffield Student Photography Competition Finalists Event is an evening packed full of exhibitions, talks & screenings. 

We Were Never Derelict, a powerful screen contribution to Park Hill by Martin Gray. “ There is something very powerful about places with personal and cultural significance. Somewhere that the ghosts of the past sit alongside new experiences. This is what drew me to making portraits and interviews with construction workers who grew up in and around the Park Hill Estate in Sheffield only to find themselves, decades later, rebuilding and regenerating it.”

Esteemed photojournalist Peter Dench will be displaying a selection of his work form his series of A1: Britain on the Verge whilst also announcing the Winners of the Student Photo Competition alongside Channel 4 Senior Pictures Team, Carl Palmer & Jamie Honeywood and David Campbell, Managing Director of sponsors of the evening Alumno, award-winning specialists in the design and development accommodation for students at Park Hill. 

Other contributors include Sheffield Modernist Society and a variety of stalls, music, food and bar!
